Question
Three years ago, I started to feel a terrible kind of fear and an abnormal kind of worry about leaving home. I started to take medication because of this anxiety. One day I fainted at the market and I returned home tired, since then I fear a lot and I have dizziness, headaches, and shivers. When someone says ‘we are going out’, I feel like I am going to die, even when going to school. I took my medication to face these feelings but fear still possesses me.
I have tired of my condition, I suffer depression and worry, and in the last year of my secondary school, I fell very sick and I did not get good marks. I sat at home and isolated myself because of that.
I did some medical tests three months ago and each time the result was good. They said: The reason maybe psychological and they transferred me to a social therapist who asked me about my condition and gave me some advice. She said: If you feel troubled again, visit me. However, I did not go back to her. I want a solution. I want to be good and healthy, and I do not like to lock myself at home and stay useless.
Answer
Dear valued sister,
As-salamu `Alaykum warahmatullah (May Allah’s Peace and Mercy be upon you)
The symptoms you have mentioned are accurate descriptions to a well-known psychological sickness which is: “Panic disorder along with agoraphobia.” It is a disease that affects a lot of people and we cure many of them because scientists have reached a good curative and psychological medication that helps many to get rid of these symptoms and go back to their normal life, so you can also go back to your study, achievement, and self-development.
The matter cannot be delayed and you have to visit a psychologist or social therapist as soon as possible.
I wish you a speedy recovery.
